Mission

Lutherans United to Assist after Disasters (LUAD) is currently a grass-roots consortium of congregations within the ELCA South Central Synod of Wisconsin whose objective it is to assist disaster survivors through the initial stages of disaster recovery.

Our Vision

LUAD is to be a spiritual partner in assisting disaster survivors through the initial stages of disaster recovery.

Our Mission

LUAD’S mission is to help disaster survivors bridge the gap between the emergency of disaster and long-term recovery by rendering the necessary services, items, supplies, assistance, and the social, emotional, and spiritual support to help them return as quickly as possible to safely carry out ‘the business of family/individuals’.

Organization Profile

In a purposeful manner to assure the successful formulation and implementation of a deliberate and sound development strategy, LUAD is initially limiting the geographic scope of its membership to this synod.  LUAD’s governing council is working closely with Lutheran Disaster Services (LDS) and the South Central Wisconsin Dean’s Group to assure coordinated operations and planning with both LDS and the South Central Wisconsin Synod Bishop’s office. In existence since 9/9/2009, LUAD is in the earlier stages of its development planning and establishment of an operating infrastructure

Deerfield Lutheran - a member of LUAD.

A new mission was established as part of the 125th observance when Deerfield Lutheran joined Lutherans United Assisting After Disasters (LUAD). Authorized by the

South Central Wisconsin Synod of the ELCA and totally volunteer-run, LUAD  operates through local churches in a stricken area to help survivors of a disaster get back on their feet, drawing upon the skills and availability of trained volunteers. Fourteen members were part of the initial training to become response volunteers.
